Will Smith impersonates John Hancock, a dreary superhero on the verge of alcoholism who lives in Los Angeles. He is famous for both saving peoples’ lives but also for the damages he provokes in the process.
He never lets anything stand in the way of his jobs, neither buildings nor cars, roads or trains. He spares nothing and knows that the bills would be paid by the city. The problem is that the city has had enough and want either Hancock to stop his crime-fighting or move to another city.
His life is about to change when he rescues Ray Embrey from being hit by a train. Ray works as a public relations executive and feels in debt to Hancock who saved his life. He came up with a way to pay him back and decides to take up the difficult task of changing Hancock’s public image. His objective was to make the public love Hancock and cheer his successes. There is one person – Ray’s wife, Mary – who thinks Hancock can’t change and tries to keep Ray from getting hurt in the process.
