In Twilight ‘s sequel, New Moon, Bella and Edward are shown trying to resume their life and make the most of it when a seemingly minor accident makes Edward realize that he and his entire vampire family are a threat to Bella.

After she recovers from her dangerous encounter with a bloodthirsty vampire (in the first part, Twilight), Bella comes to Edward’s house to celebrate her birthday with his family. While she is unwrapping her gifts, she gets a paper-cut. Although Edward’s family doesn’t consume human blood, one of them finds it impossible to resist fresh human blood and attacks Bella.

Although he’s deeply in love with Bella, Edward decides to leave her, realizing the danger he and his family put her through. Bella is devastated and, trying to overcome her pain engages in all sort of dangerous actions, putting herself in great danger.
