‘The Soloist’, a drama based on the redeeming power of music, tells the story of journalist Steve Lopez (Robert Downey Jr.) and of Nathaniel Anthony Ayers (Jamie Foxx), who had once been a maestro of classical music, but who is now playing the violin on Los Angeles streets.
Nathaniel Ayers was diagnosed with schizophrenia during his second year of Conservatory, which
gradually turned him into a homeless person. Impressed by the violn player’s talent, Steve Lopez wrote a series of articles that helped him give a concert in the Disney Concert Hall.
Jamie Foxx plays the part of the musician, while Robert Downey Jr. is the journalist. Catherine Keener, who seems to be really appreciated this year, also plays a part in the film.
We have reasons to believe this film has good chances to win an Oscar, if not for one of the actors, at least for its director, Joe Wright, whom we all know from ‘Pride and Prejudice’.
