Bottle Shock (2008)
Bottle Shock (2008)

In 1976 an American underdog winery, Château Montelena, from Napa Valley – California, bested more noble French wines at the white wine section of the wine-tasting contest “Judgment of Paris”.

This is the true story of an American having the dream of developing the perfect Chardonnay in a region that didn’t have any tradition in wine making. Jim, the owner of Château Montelena struggles but somehow doesn’t manage to get his business to be profitable.

His chance comes when an unsuccessful British owner of a wine shop in Paris, Steven Spurrier, gets the idea to sponsor and organize a blind wine-tasting contest to get some media attention to his shop. He gets this idea from his seemingly only client Maurice, who tells him that Californian wines are starting to get attention.

He therefore goes to Napa to test some of their wines and meets Jim. Little do they realize that together they’ll put Californian wines on the map.
