Mail Order Wife (2005)
Mail Order Wife (2005)

The theme of mail ordered brides has been treated in this film in the form of a documentary. The one interested in making this documentary is Andrew Gurland, a New York city director.

In order to get it all on tape, he pays Adrian Martin, a man working as a doorman in Queens and who has given up the idea of finding a wife in normal ways, due to his weight. The filmmakers show how Adrian picks Lichi, a 20 year old, beautiful Burmese woman from a catalogue; they fly her to New York and she becomes Mrs. Martin.

Adrian treats her more like a domestic servant than a wife; he even wants to have her sterilized, but she rejects the procedure.

Lichi leaves her husband and shows up at Andrew’s door with a film on her life as a mail ordered bride.

She lets her stay there and things heat up; a series of events will take place and it all ends in a great showdown in Miami which serves to prove that people will do anything to avoid being alone.
