The movie was premiered on the 05th of Sept in the US and will show up in European cinemas in a few weeks.
The story is told by a narrator (Christopher Evan Welch) and lets us know the details of a summer vacation that two friends – Vicky (Rebecca Hall) and Cristina (Scarlet Johansson) – spend in Barcelona.
Vicky and Cristina meet the leading man at an art exhibition and they are somewhat intrigued of Juan Antonio (Javier Bardem)’s extremely passionate love story with his ex-wife (Penelope Cruz).
While travelling to Oviedo, Juan Antonio and Vicky spend more time together and end up making love, which will arouse the girl’s sense of guilt towards Cristina.
In time, Juan and Cristina start dating and move in together, Vicky and her fiancé decide to get married in Spain and Maria Elena (P. Cruz) comes to live in Juan’s house after an attempted suicide. Living together gives them the opportunity to experience and the 3 characters engage in a passionate sexual relationship.
Things change again with Cristina’s leaving to France; Juan and Maria Elena break up again and he tries to seduce Vicky without success. In the end, things seem to go back to being the same as they were 3 months before: Vicky goes back to her ideally planned life and Christina to living hers without any plans at all.
