The Wackness (2008)
The Wackness

The Wackness

‘The Wackness’ is a drama with comedy elements which pictures a less known image of New York, right after Mayor Rudolph Giuliani came to the office.

He had just started to initiate his quite unpopular initiatives against so-called crimes such as noisy portable cassette players, graffiti artwork or the consumption of alcohol in public places.

The action takes place in the summer of 1994, when the streets of the Big Apple were pulsating on hip-hop rhythms, a music genre which was slowly infiltrating in the white culture.

Young high school student, Luke Shapiro is trying to find a solution for his parents’ problems and gets involved in drug distribution all over town; he is also trying to get out of the state of depression he was in and lose his virginity before going to college.

His sessions with psychiatrist Jeffrey Squires are supposed to solve at least a part of his problems, but the doctor turns out to be just another lost soul, tormented by his own demons.
