Chicago (2002)

Chicago, mid 20’s; vice and crime rule the town. And this is where Velma Kelly (Catherine Zeta-Jones), the most important cabaret star, comes to live.

She is a great singer and a great dancer and, along with her sister, she puts on the best show in town: hundreds, thousands of men come to see them.

But one night Velma’s sister does not show up and she has to go on stage and sing all alone; she does not get the chance to sing too much, as the police come in and arrest her for having murdered her sister.

They said she had killed her sister after finding out that she was having an affair with her lover. A witness to all this is Roxie Hart (Renee Zellweger), a young singer who dreams about becoming a great star, just like Velma. Roxie’s life is also complicated; she is married to a plain and boring man (John C. Reilly), and has a lover who promises he will help her achieve success. The problem is he is telling lies, and when she finds out she shoots him to death.

Velma and Rosie are now jail mates, and the only way to escape the death row is by hiring the best lawyer in town, Billy Flynn (Richard Gere). Billy sees real star material in Rosie and decides to transform her into a media attraction; she soon becomes very famous, even without singing, but one never knows how things may turn out….
