A Thousand Years of Good Prayers (2008) 

Mr. Shi is a widower retired man from Beijing who goes to a little town near Washington to visit his only daughter Yilan, who works as a librarian there and who has just got a divorce.

Although polite, Yilan can’t wait to get rid of her father, who wants to get involved in her life and determine her to get back together with her ex-husband.

The only person who Mr. Shi gets along well, despite language barriers, is Madam, a woman from Iran, who lives with her son and his famiy.

Mr. Shi an Madam start seeing each other regularly, meeting in the park. They become very good friends, but the friendship ends when Madam is sent to a retirement home.

Mr. Shi and his daughter Yilan have a fight, where each one of them tells the other how he/she really feels.
