2004 Afro-American Biography Drama film Mario Van Peebles Melvin Van Peebles underground film
Baadasssss!
The underground film directed by Melvin Van Peebles in 1971, called “Sweet Sweetback’s Baadasssss Song”, was a key moment in the history of Afro-American cinema.
Thirty three years later, Melvin’s son, Mario, decided to honor his father by making a film; the main subject was basically his father’s blood, tears and efforts he made in order to finish the 1971 film.
Moreover, Mario walks a mile in his father’s shoes and plays his character in the film “Badasssss!” released in 2004.
