Ballast

‘Ballast’ tells the story of a man who has tried to commit suicide, of his brother, of his depressed ex wife and her son, a drug addicted teenager.

The suicide of a man marks a crossing point in the life of three persons, who live in a remote town in the Delta of the Mississippi, where the winter sky is always gray….or perhaps, it always feel like winter.

James, the son of the deceased, is 12 years old and has already started taking drugs and get into trouble with the local bullies.

Marlie, like the single mother she is, fights to give her son a good life, by doing heavy and lousy paid jobs; she feels powerless before the latest events James is going through.

Lawrence, a middle aged man, is forced to face and get over his brother’s suicide; the tragic event will bring the three characters together.

The initial violence of their first encounters will soon transform, out of necessity, into something that even looks like affection, and the image of a family becomes more and more clear.
