In 1951, Peter Appleton was a script writer working for the HHS studios with the ambition of having a great life someday.
The first script turned into a film was just released and he is a dating a famous starlet who also plays the main role in the film.All of a sudden, he is accused of being a communist; he loses his job, his girlfriend and all the Hollywood glamour.
While he tries to run away from his problems, one stormy night, he loses control of his car and falls off a bridge. When he wakes up he has no idea where he is and no memory of his life before the accident.
Things get even more complicated, when he is mistaken for long lost war hero, Luke Trimble. What to do, what to say? Has he passed the last eight years of his life thinking he was somebody else?
