“Married Life” is a romantic drama, a mixture of suspense, black humour and love. Based on a novel by John Bingham, the movie is directed and co-written by Ira Sachs.
The cast brings together great names of Hollywood, which makes us think this is a movie worth going to the theatre to watch it.
Chris Cooper embodies the mysterious Harry, while Patricia Clarkson is his wife Pat in the fiction. Other major characters are Pierce Brosnan (Richard Langley) and Rachel McAdams (Kay Nesbitt).
The movie tells the story of Harry who has been happily married to Pat for many years, but who is now thinking about leaving her in order to be with her mistress Kay. The problems appear when Harry decides to kill his wife in order to save her the suffering, and when his plans interfere with those of the others.
“Married Life” is a love pentagon in which all relationships are illustrated in fine details; it is a study on human nature, a look at the chronic hypocrisy of the holy institution of marriage, at the fallacy of love relationships and even at the true nature of love.
