Dan Dunne is a very idealistic and charismatic History teacher who works at a Brooklyn high school.
His teaching methods are not exactly the traditional ones and he wants to teach his students to learn to reflect on the historical and personal changes and to issue personal judgments on them.
Out of the classroom, Dan is a very disappointed man who has taken the wrong path due to his drug addiction.
When one of his more difficult students discovers his ‘passion’, they develop a somewhat strange friendship.
The expression ‘half Nelson’ refers to one of the most complex elements of free style fighting, and the authors have chosen this title in order to express the idea that complex problems can end up suffocating a person.
