The film presents the dramatic story of a family, the impact on power and wealth on human personality and the loss of moral values.
The movie was nominated for eight Oscars: best picture, best script, best director (Paul Thomas Anderson) and the best actor (Daniel Day Lewis).
Daniel Plainview, a mine worker who has brought up his son in poverty,
gets a tip about an oil field in Little Boston. The two decide to take their chances and leave the past behind; but the town they moved to wasn’t as they had expected it. They were confronted with the hostile attitude of the Pentecostal Church Pastor, Eli Sunday.
But Plainview’s ambition will overpass all the obstacles and he will end up being incredibly rich and incredibly insensitive at the same time.
The role of the Pastor is played by Paul Dano and the cast also includes Kevin J. O’Connor (Henry Brands), Ciaran Hinds (Fletcher), Dillon Freasier (H.W. Plainview).
